"What causes fights and quarrels among you? Don’t they come from your desires that battle within you?" —James 4:1.

What I want is simple.

I want to stand out.
I want to fit in.

I want to rule.
I want to have fun.

I want to be naughty.
I want to be blameless.

I want to be feared.
I want to be admired.

I want to be famous.
I want to be mysterious.

I want to escape.
I want to be rescued.

I want to ask questions that can't be answered.
I want to give answers that can't be questioned.

I want respect without dignity.
I want growth without effort.
I want pleasure without pain.
I want grace without cost.
I want love without sacrifice.
I want trust without integrity.
I want sin without rebellion.
I want forgiveness without repentance.
I want innocence without ignorance.
I want experience without shame.
I want rank without responsibility.
I want truth without consequences.

I want to be overlooked.
I want to be special.

I want peace.
I want power.

I want justice for others.
I want privilege for myself.

I want Nothingness.
I want eternal life.

I want to be exposed.
I want to be hidden.

I want God to love me.
I want me to be God.

I want nothing.
I want everything.

What I want is simple.
Is it all too much to ask?
